A giant banana is being launched into space with the aim of floating in the low-level atmosphere over Texas for a month. The project titled “Geostationary Banana Over Texas†is an art intrusion that involves placing a gigantic fruit over the Texas sky. This object will float between the high atmosphere and Earth’s low orbit and will be visible only from the state of Texas and its surroundings. The banana will be clearly identifiable and visible day and night.

Caesar Sa’ez, the man behind the unique project, has plans to launch the 300m long inflatable banana into orbit from Mexico next summer to witness how people retort to this crazy flying fruit. The finished banana will be longer than three football pitches and as high as a 20-storey building in the center.
The cover is made with resistant synthetic paper and the structure is a simple frame of bamboo and balsa wood that contains up to 17 helium bags. Afterwards, the banana is covered with yellow nylon and re-touched with color for more realism. The goal of this art intervention is to develop a new artistic discipline and a space technology accessible to everyone.
It would be really interesting to see how this peculiar thing is going to stay in orbit on Texas without moving. Anyhow, it will fix to the Texano sky with the help of a system of gyroscopes.
